Congleton Location

Known locally as Beartown, the market town of Congleton is perfectly positioned for an easy getaway to Cheshire's Peak District. Situated on the bank of the River Dane, the town benefits from beautiful scenery intertwined with historic architecture. Located between Manchester and Stoke-on-Trent, Congleton has a population of 26,500.

 With excellent transport links, new homes in Congleton are favourites with both commuters and dwellers alike.


From the A34, both Stoke-on-Trent and Manchester can be reached, with the M6 just seven miles east. The A54 provides access to Buxton and the Peak District, while the A536 leads to Macclesfield. The Staffordshire town of Biddulph is on the A527 and can be used as an alternative route into Stoke-on-Trent.

Congleton has its own railway station and is situated on the Manchester to Stoke-on-Trent branch of the West Coast Main Line. The nearest airport is Manchester at 20 miles away and there are a number of bus routes servicing the town.


The town is home to attractions such as Congleton Park and the free-to-use Paddling Pool, which is open during the summer months to aid cooling off in warmer climes. National Trust Tudor house, Little Moreton Hall can be found four miles southwest, with Biddulph Valley Way providing a haven for hikers and cyclists.

Along with a museum and theatre, Congleton also plays host to a number of festivals, including an annual Food & Drink Festival and Jazz & Blues Festival. There's also a variety of bars, cafés and restaurants to cater for every taste.


There are a number of primary schools in the area, such as Marlfields Primary School and Smallwood (C of E) Primary School. Congleton High School and Eaton Bank Academy are the local secondary schools, both of which have a sixth form. Manchester Metropolitan University Cheshire campus is 11 miles away, with Keele University a 30-minute drive away.
